INTEGRITY HOUR: EKU STUDENTS AGAINST CORRUPTION

The traditional ‘Hour of Integrity’ under the slogan ‘Honesty is the face of humanity’ was held on the basis of S. Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University together with the Department of the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Combating Corruption in East Kazakhstan region. The event was attended by the Rector of the university Mukhtar Tolegen, head of the Anti-Corruption Service of the East Kazakhstan region, Major General Denis Shakenov, head of the Prevention Department of the Anti-Corruption Service of the East Kazakhstan region Arkhat Beisembayev, senior officer Gulnur Bekbaeva, faculty and students of the university.

Every year in his Address, Kasym-Jomart Tokayev sets tasks for state bodies and society, drawing attention to topical issues on the formation of anti-corruption culture. In fulfilment of the tasks set by the President of Kazakhstan, our university regularly participates in the promotion of correct values and mass education of young people. Today we have gathered here to once again remind about the importance of selfless thinking, – said Mukhtar Adilbekovich.

As part of the event, an art exhibition of the participants of the contest ‘Youth against Corruption’ was unfolded. Recall, earlier in order to form an anti-corruption culture among the younger generation to the 10th anniversary of the Anti-Corruption Service of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the university organised a drawing competition.

Talented students presented works depicting a world without corruption, the consequences of corruption offences and ways to combat the ‘disease’ of society. The commission members accepted and reviewed 86 creative works. The winners of first, second and third places won certificates of merit and cash certificates worth 100,000, 75,000 and 50,000 tenge.

In addition, there was a ceremony of awarding diplomas to teachers and students for their contribution to the development of anti-corruption culture, as well as awarding a badge named after Kabanbai batyr Denis Shakenov.

We have been co-operating with S. Amanzholov University for a number of years. Your university actively promotes the values of our organisation among young people, and graduates annually join the ranks of worthy, competent and professional employees. Therefore, we will always be happy to employ a new generation of graduates and pass on to you invaluable experience, – Denis addressed the students.

The event concluded with a dialogue platform and a large-scale photo-challenge demonstrating the large number of students saying ‘no’ to corruption.
