PRACTICAL TRAINING IN ECOLOGICAL MONITORING AND METEOROLOGY AT EAST KAZAKHSTAN UNIVERSITY

Associate Professor of the Department of Ecology and Geography of S. Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University , Candidate of Geographical Sciences Anatoly Sergeevich Chursin conducted a number of practical classes aimed at studying ecological processes and meteorological phenomena.

The first lesson was held in the Observation Point for the state of atmospheric pollution of the branch of RSE on REU “Kazgidromet” for the students of the third year of educational programmes “Ecology” and “Higher School of IT and Natural Sciences” In the course of the session, students learnt about modern instruments used to measure the concentration of various pollutants such as sulphur dioxide (SO₂), nitrogen oxides (NOₓ), carbon monoxide (CO), particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5) and ozone (O).

Practical sessions are key to understanding the theoretical knowledge that students gain in the classroom. They allow them to see the real state of the environment and realise how our actions affect it,’ said Anatoly Chursin.

The second session was held at the meteorological station in Ust-Kamenogorsk for the second year students of the educational programmes “Hydroecology, Management and Transboundary Water Security” and “Higher School of IT and Natural Sciences”. Within the framework of this practice the students got acquainted with various meteorological devices, which allow to measure air temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind speed and direction, as well as the amount of precipitation and other meteorological parameters.

It should be noted that in the course of practical exercises, students learnt about the process of data collection and analysis, which is an important aspect of environmental monitoring.
