DECEMBER EVENTS THROUGH THE EYES OF THOSE WHO SAW IT

In S. Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University to the Independence Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan was organized a meeting with first-year students, during which historians told about the December events of 1986 in Almaty.

The meeting began with the photo exhibition “December events in photos”. One of the remarkable photos was the historical work of the correspondent of Soviet KazTAGA Yuri Bekker “The Trial of Four”. Also students could see the Decembrist Anar Rakhimzhanova, the monument to the victims of the December events “ Tauyelsizdik tany” and others on the photos.

During the event historians explained the causes, course and consequences of those events. Speakers were the head of the Department of History of Kazakhstan and Social and Humanitarian Disciplines Lyazzat Zhamanbaeva and candidate of historical sciences, associate professor Raushan Nurbekova, who at that time studied in Almaty and became an accidental witness of historical events.

– Today’s event will explain more deeply to our students the history, which eventually transformed into the sovereignty of our country. In this way we bring up feelings of patriotism and respect for the fallen victims, – said Lyazzat Zhamanbayeva.

Zhanneta Kalimoldina, vice-rector for educational and social work, told about one of the most famous heroes of the December events, Yerbol Sypatayev.

– We received a lot of new information. It was especially exciting to listen to the stories of people who saw Almaty in December 1986 with their own eyes,” said student Aiganim Slyamkhanova.
