RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE SERPIN PROGRAM AND THE UNITED NATIONS STRATEGY

One of the UN’s priority sustainable development goals is Goal 11, whose main objective is to organize and secure cities and towns and create an enabling environment for livelihoods. As the population of cities grows every year, it becomes strategically important to address issues of transportation, housing, infrastructure, environment and sanitation.

East Kazakhstan University realizes this goal through a number of activities. One of them is the state program “Serpin”, which has a 10-year history. During this period the university has trained 1122 graduates. According to the data of the project office, the employment rate of graduates is 97%. Most of them stayed in East Kazakhstan. Graduates are employed in local organizations or continue their scientific activities. Thus, the Serpin program allows young people to settle in new regions, contributing to the sustainable development of cities and towns.
