Environmental history as a direction in historical science studies the interaction between humans and the environment over time, focusing on how changes in natural conditions and ecosystems influenced the development of human societies. This field has become particularly relevant in recent decades in response to global environmental challenges such as climate change, species extinction, pollution, and the sustainability of natural resources. In the face of global environmental challenges, environmental history helps to understand what lessons can be learned from human history in the context of sustainable development and conservation. By analyzing how past societies have used or destroyed their environmental resources, it is possible to avoid repeating similar mistakes in the future, to implement sustainable development goals such as combating climate change and preserving terrestrial ecosystems.
