PROFESSOR OF AMANZHOLOV UNIVERSITY DEVELOPS DOMESTIC TOURISM WITH THE HELP OF GIS-TECHNOLOGIES

Associate Professor of the Department of Ecology and Geography, PhD Nazgul Jensikbaeva studies ways of preserving the ecosystem of natural and historical-cultural objects with the help of geoinformation technologies. Her main goal is to develop tourism and create a unified register of sacred places in East Kazakhstan region.

Recently the author’s project of the scientist of S. Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University won grant funding from the Science Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Now Nazgul Zhensikbaeva has more opportunities for quick and quality realization of her idea, which will allow to identify monuments of natural, architectural, historical and cultural heritage, increase tourist attractiveness and even protect the ecosystem.

-I intend to tell about new or little-studied tourist sites in our region using GIS technologies. For example, about the geological monument Kiin-Kerish, the village of Kalguty, the ancient Turkic balbala, a magical prayer stone, and others. I plan to carefully collect information, archival photos and videos to later upload these data to a web resource for Kazakhstanis and foreigners,” the professor said.

According to her, the electronic guide will store various monographs, encyclopedias, detailed digital maps. All this will have a positive effect on the country’s recognizability on a global scale and will allow for objective monitoring of the state of sacred places and their ecosystems.

To date, the author of the project has compiled cartographic compilations of the Southern Altai and developed tourist routes.
