KAZAKH ORNAMENT: HERITAGE AND MODERNITY

Research Center “Altaytanu” organized a scientific seminar on the theme “Ornament – civilization and time”. Its participants were teachers of schools of the city, specialists of the Research Center, as well as faculty members of the Department of History of Kazakhstan and Social and Humanitarian Disciplines. Those present discussed the culture of Kazakh people. In particular, the importance of ornamental art and its role in the modern world.

-Ornaments served the Kazakhs as decoration and amulets. Their elements indicated belonging to a clan or zhuz, they were read as a message, – said the director of the “Altaytanu” Maira Tarlaubai.

In her speech, she also noted that each element of ornament is filled with deep meaning. Depending on circumstances, it can have different meaning. But its symbolism is always filled with positivity, good wishes, and is designed to attract favorable circumstances.

During the event other participants made reports. Among them were senior researcher of “Altaytanu” Kuralay Kairbayeva, associate professors of East Kazakhstan University Kulzipash Akhmetzhanova and Nurash Igisinova, as well as doctoral student Berik Kadirov. In addition, quilts and clothes demonstrating the diversity of ornamental art were presented to the seminar guests.
