KAZAKHSTAN-RUSSIA FORUM: TEACHING FINANCIAL SECURITY TO SCHOOLCHILDREN AND STUDENTS
A Kazakhstan-Russia forum on teaching school and university students the basics of financial security was held in Astana.
The event was attended by the Chairman of the Financial Monitoring Agency, Zhanat Elimanov, Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek, industry experts, and rectors of 18 domestic higher education institutions.
The Russian delegation was led by the Director of the Federal Financial Monitoring Service, Yuri Chikhanchin. Rectors of five leading Russian universities shared their experience in promoting financial security within the education system and training qualified specialists. These universities included the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, Siberian Federal University, Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (PFUR), the P.N. Lebedev Physical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute.
Yuri Chikhanchin emphasized the significance of the long-standing cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia in countering financial threats. He highlighted joint efforts on several projects, including the organization of the International Financial Security Olympiad.
In his speech, Sayasat Nurbek stressed the need for a systematic approach to improving financial literacy:
“In the face of growing cyber fraud, we have started implementing financial security courses in universities and schools that explain important topics in an accessible way. It is also crucial to continue international cooperation in training qualified specialists.”
As part of the forum, a lecture on financial security titled “Pirates of the 21st Century: Risks of Youth Involvement in Criminal Schemes” was held at Astana IT University. Students were informed about dropper schemes, methods of recruitment, and the legal consequences of participation.
At the end of the event, a signing ceremony was held for Astana IT University’s accession to the International Network Institute for Countering Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing.
This opens up new opportunities for the university in developing and implementing modern educational programs on financial security and combating cybercrime.
