CORRECTION OF CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS: VISITING PRACTICE BASES

Within the framework of the republican press tour “Education without Barriers” the representatives of mass media visited the practice centers, which are long-term partners of the university. The journalists got acquainted with the activities and material and technical equipment of the private rehabilitation and correction center “DEMEY” and the state boarding school “Ak Niyet”.

The “DEMEY” center provides a range of correctional services for children with musculoskeletal disorders. It conducts individual and group classes of physical therapy, physiotherapy, speech therapy, defectologist, massage, ergotherapy. According to the director of the center Madina Aurenova, the main problem of inclusion today is the lack of certified specialists. In solving this issue, East Kazakhstan University’s significant contribution to the talent pool is especially commendable. Madina Dauletkanovna noted that 100% of staff working in “DEMEY” are graduates of S. Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University.

-All today’s specialists are former students of my native alma mater. Here the students undergo practical training for 3-4 months, after which we employ them for vacant positions. This is a continuous two-way process of fruitful cooperation. We are fully satisfied with the theoretical and practical knowledge of East Kazakhstan University students, so we are always happy to have new highly qualified employees, – said Madina Aurenova.

Note, the center was created in 2019. During this time, its specialists have managed to help hundreds of children with locomotor disorders. Today “DEMEY” is attended by 80 children.

The second object during the tour was the boarding school “Ak niyet”, which has been officially functioning since 2017.
The activity of the institution is carried out in several directions: educational, implementation of additional educational programs of various directions, education and comprehensive development of children and adolescents with disorders of the locomotor apparatus, vision, hearing and speech with preserved intelligence, psychological, medical, pedagogical and correctional support.

All necessary conditions have been created here: barrier-free environment, classrooms of new modification, specially equipped rooms of speech therapist, speech pathologist, psychologist, physical therapy room, sensory room, physiotherapy room. The boarding school is equipped with the latest medical equipment. Highly professional staff, including graduates of East Kazakhstan University, have been attracted to work with children.

In addition, within the framework of the concluded memorandum with Amanzholov University, the management of the boarding school purchased from the university an author’s chair-verticalizer, which is successfully used for teaching one of the students with special educational needs. By the way, today 100 children are studying in the new type of institution.

According to Svetlana Krivitskaya, Director of Ak Niet, such a school gives a real chance for children with special needs to feel confident in the future and prepares them for independent adult life.
