HUMAN RESOURCES POTENTIAL OF THE NUCLEAR INDUSTRY: MAGATE REPRESENTATIVES AT AMANZHOLOV UNIVERSITY
Amanzholov University hosted an official meeting with representatives of IAEA – International Atomic Energy Agency. Elena Zhivitskaya, specialist of the Nuclear Knowledge Management Division of the IAEA Nuclear Energy Department, Andrey Timoshenko, vice-president of STAR-NET, specialist of the IAEA International Centre, and Yuri Volkov, deputy head of the Department of Theoretical and Experimental Physics of Nuclear Reactors of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (Russia), arrived at the largest regional university to familiarize themselves with the research activities of Amanzholov University and the current system of training for the nuclear industry, which is being actively implemented.
-Kazakhstan is entering a new stage of development where the training of qualified personnel for the nuclear power industry plays a key role. Since 2011, S. Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University has been implementing an educational program “Nuclear Physics and Nuclear Power Engineering”, focused on training a new generation of specialists. Our students have the opportunity to work on nuclear reactors, NMR spectrometer, X-ray facilities, participate in international internships, startup projects, as well as study within the framework of academic mobility programs in Lithuania, Poland, Turkey, Russia, France. We are sure that modern engineering and scientific education in the nuclear field is impossible without broad international cooperation and integration into the global educational ecosystem,” said Mukhtar Tolegen, Rector of the university.
IAEA expert Elena Zhivitskaya shared that the international company is not only open to cooperation with higher schools, but also enthusiastically supports such initiatives.
-The recent decision to build a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan will certainly give an impetus to the sustainable development of the country. The IAEA is proud to support Kazakhstan’s efforts in this direction. When it comes to education and training, our organization offers Integrated Nuclear Education Advisory Services, which include national and university programs. Thus, we help Kazakhstan’s universities to optimize and improve nuclear education to ensure sustainability,” said Elena Zhivitskaya.
According to her, the launch of the first nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan will require at least 2,000 certified specialists, which is a good employment prospect for Amanzholov University graduates.
Within the framework of the meeting the guests of honor were presented the research laboratories and centers of East Kazakhstan University, where innovative author’s projects are presented.
In the end, the IAEA representatives became participants of the round table “Modern challenges and prospects for the development of educational programs in nuclear physics and nuclear power: international experience and local implementation”.
The event was also attended by Chief Scientific Officer of NNC RK, Professor of the Department of Physics and Technology East Kazakhstan University Mazhyn Skakov, Head of the Laboratory of Ion-Plasma Technologies of the Institute of Nuclear Physics of DOE RK Eldar Zhakanbaev, Scientific Secretary of the branch “Institute of Atomic Energy RSE ‘National Nuclear Center RK’ Lyudmila Erygina and others. University professors spoke about improving the structure and content of the educational program “Nuclear Physics and Nuclear Power Engineering”, as well as double degree education and international partnership within the STAR-NET network.
It should be noted that the IAEA is an international atomic energy agency established in accordance with the UN decision in 1957. Its headquarters is located in Vienna, Austria. Its functions include the promotion of research and development on the peaceful uses of atomic energy, as well as the development and adaptation of health and safety standards.
