THE REPUBLICAN PEDAGOGICAL OLYMPIAD DEDICATED TO ABAI’S LEGACY WAS HELD

In Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University the IV Republican Olympiad for students of pedagogical specialties under the title “Abai’s Legacy in pedagogy of the XXI century” was held. The annual event this year was timed to the 180th anniversary of the great poet, thinker and educator Abai Kunanbayev.

The main goal of the Olympiad is to study Abai’s creative and pedagogical heritage in depth, to develop research and creative potential of future teachers, as well as to promote national spiritual and moral values among students. Four-member teams representing universities from different regions of the country took part in the competition.

The Olympiad consisted of three stages. The first stage was a homework, in which the participants presented a scientific project on the theme “Abai and Kazakhstan of the XXI century”. The second stage was a theatrical performance “Life Situation”, where the teams, based on Abai’s works, demonstrated modern realities in society and the state. In the third stage, students proposed effective ways of using Abai’s heritage in education.

The works of the participants were evaluated by a competent jury. Bakhytzhan Kelgembayeva, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Kazakh, Russian Philology and Journalism of East Kazakhstan University, became the Chairman of the jury. Also the jury included Gulnaz Aitmukhanbetova, master of philology, teacher of Kazakh language and literature, head of department “Languages and Literature” of East Kazakhstan Humanitarian College named after Abay, Yertai Hasenov, actor of East Kazakhstan Regional Drama Theater, honored worker of culture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Dana Zhienbaeva, teacher-master, deputy director on educational part of secondary school № 47 of Ust-Kamenogorsk city, as well as the head of department on educational work and social issues of East Kazakhstan University Dauren Baidrakhmanov.
According to the results of the Olympiad the following winners were determined: I place – North Kazakhstan University named after M. Kozybaev II place – Zhetysu University named after I. Zhansugurov and University named after Shakarim.
III place – Alikhan Bukeykhanov University, Shakarim University, West Kazakhstan University named after M. Utemisov and Kazakhstan-American Free University.

Participants and prize winners were awarded diplomas and certificates, and the baton of holding the next Olympiad was passed to NKU named after M. Kozybaev.
