HONORING THE MEMORY OF VETERANS

In honor of the Great Victory Day in Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University a solemn ceremony of laying flowers in memory of veterans who gave their lives for the Motherland was held.

As part of the event, the participants honored the memory of the founder of Kazakh linguistics, an outstanding scientist and professor Sarsen Amanzholov by laying flowers at his monument.

The first speaker was Dean of the Higher School of Humanities, candidate of philological sciences Slyambek Orazalin:

– Sarsen Amanzholov was a major linguist who laid the scientific foundations of Kazakh linguistics and grammar. He was born in 1903 in the East Kazakhstan region. He created the structure of Kazakh language grammar, wrote the first textbooks, played an important role in the transition of Kazakh writing to Latin and Cyrillic. His works have not lost their relevance even today. Since 2003 our university proudly bears the name of Sarsen Amanzholov, – he noted.

Aliya Uskembay, candidate of historical sciences, author of a dissertation on the life and scientific activity of Sarsen Amanzholov, also made a speech:

– Sarsen Amanzholov’s contribution to the Victory is also significant. In February 1942, he was drafted into the army. After training he was sent to the Karelian front. One of his first feats was active participation in accommodation of children evacuated from Russia and Ukraine in Kazakhstan. He showed care and responsibility to the fate of each child. Due to his fluent command of Russian and Kazakh languages he was appointed a political leader, and in 1944 he was promoted to the rank of captain. To raise morale, the soldier wrote works about heroes, and also participated in compiling a Kazakh-Russian dictionary during the war,” she said.

During the event, students of the Higher School of Humanities read poems dedicated to Sarsen Amanzholov.

In addition, East Kazakhstan University staff and students laid flowers at the memorial plaque in honor of Zhumash Karimovich Ualiyev, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War who made a significant contribution to the development of the university.

Zhumash Ualiev started his labor career as a simple teacher and reached the rector of the first higher education institution in East Kazakhstan – the present Sarsen Amanzholov University. He headed the educational institution for almost 25 years, was a candidate of sciences, professor, a recognized expert in the field of inorganic chemistry and chemical technology.

Flowers were also laid at the memorial plaque in honor of the soldiers of the 30th Guards Division, who fought heroically at the front from Moscow to Riga.

– This event is organized as a sign of respect for the feat of arms of the soldiers of World War II, as well as to form a patriotic spirit and historical consciousness in the younger generation, – said Deputy Head of the Military Department named after Kabanbai Batyr, Colonel Kanat Kemelbaev.
