EAST KAZAKHSTAN UNIVERSITY PARTICIPATED IN THE FOUNDING MEETING OF THE KAZAKHSTAN ASSOCIATION OF SILVER UNIVERSITIES

The founding meeting of the Kazakhstan Association of Silver Universities (KASU) was held at Kokshetau Sh. Ualikhanov University in the online format. The event was attended by representatives of the leading universities of the country, interested in the development of educational programs for citizens of the third age.

The key topic of the meeting was the discussion of the current state and prospects for the development of Silver Universities in Kazakhstan. The participants shared their experience and proposed strategies to expand the network and improve the quality of educational services for citizens 50+.

Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University, as an active participant of the Association, presented its own Silver University development program. The University has a rich experience in this sphere: back in 2000 the Club for the elderly 60+ started its work on the basis of the university, which covered more than 2800 participants within the framework of 11 district projects of East Kazakhstan region.

Since 2020 East Kazakhstan University has been implementing the project “Silver University”, within the framework of which new format educational programs have been developed in 11 areas, including digital literacy, basics of entrepreneurship, art therapy and foreign language learning. Special attention is paid to the training of qualified lecturers, interaction with NGOs and partner organizations, as well as volunteer activities of students in nursing homes for the elderly and disabled. In addition, the university conducts sociological research by order of the Department of Internal Policy of East Kazakhstan region and Ust-Kamenogorsk city, the results of which are published in mass media.

To date, more than 1555 people have been trained within the project, 470 of them are teachers, staff and labor veterans of the university, 1085 – residents of Ust-Kamenogorsk and districts of the region.

In the course of the meeting the questions of development of the KASU logo and the beginning of cooperation with the international platform “AIUTA Connect” were also considered. The proposals on visual identity of the Association were made by the head of “Serpilis” Ismagulova A.E. and Kushtan Y.V.

East Kazakhstan University intends to continue to actively participate in the activities of the Association, contributing to the strengthening of educational and social initiatives for senior citizens.
