EAST KAZAKHSTAN UNIVERSITY STARTED A COMPREHENSIVE STUDY OF THE GREATER ALTAI REGION WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION
Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University held an international scientific-practical seminar on “The World of Altai in the context of culture”. The large-scale event was organized by the research center “Altaytanu” and the Department of History of Kazakhstan and socio-humanitarian disciplines. The research group of the Leibniz Institute of History and Culture of Eastern Europe (Germany) took part in the seminar.
The seminar discussed issues of interdisciplinary relations in the transboundary space of East Kazakhstan and Greater Altai, actual theoretical and methodological problems of socio-humanitarian sciences, as well as their practical significance.
– Our scientific institute together with East Kazakhstan University organizes a summer school. This is one of the first events aimed at the humanitarian study of the Greater Altai. We are looking at how climate change affects agriculture and the way of life of the population. I hope that our partnership will lead to successful scientific projects,” said Andrei Vinogradov, a researcher at the Leibniz Institute of History and Culture of Eastern Europe.
He made a report on “Climate Change and Humanities: an Interdisciplinary Look at the History of the Greater Altai”, sharing relevant data on the impact of global climate change on the region.
The seminar also touched upon the following important topics: climate change and the history of the Greater Altai, socio-demographic development of the cities of East Kazakhstan, the image of nature in the works of writer Oralkhan Bokey, natural features and holy places of the Kazakh Altai.
Associate Professor of the Department of Ecology and Geography Anatoly Tsyganov in his report “Features of the nature of the Kazakh Altai” shared his experience of studying the nature of East Kazakhstan. He described rare plants, mountain landscapes and demonstrated photographs reflecting unique natural phenomena. The foreign research group expressed interest in visiting these places.
East Kazakhstan University faculty introduced the guests to the picturesque nature of the region and emphasized its scientific value. As part of the upcoming joint research, the reports of Kazakhstani scientists will become important material for foreign partners.
– The issue of climate change, which is now being studied all over the world, is extremely relevant for our region. This shows that we do not stand aside from global problems and take concrete steps. Scientists of the University will provide full support to your research work, – said Irina Rovnyakova, Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and International Cooperation.
Director of the research center “Altaytanu” Maira Tarlaubai noted that the main goal of the expedition is to study the relationship between the natural environment and society in the conditions of climate change in the mountainous regions of Altai.
– A scientific expedition to the Katon-Karagai region is planned as part of the summer program. We will visit Uryl, Berel mound, Rakhmanovskie kluchi, Katon-Karagai National Park, Urunhaika village. On the way back we will visit Markakol reserve, – said Maira Tarlaubai.
The program is aimed at a comprehensive study of the environmental situation in the region, its historical and cultural heritage and social changes.
At the end of the seminar, international certificates were awarded to the active participants – school teachers, university professors and members of the research group from Germany.
