EXPEDITIONARY RESEARCH IN THE EASTERN KAZAKHSTAN REGION

Scientists of S. Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University and Altai State University took part in expeditionary research on the territory of East Kazakhstan region during the implementation of the project “Development of catastrophic flood forecasting system in East Kazakhstan region using remote sensing data, GIS-technologies and machine learning” according to the agreement with “Astana IT University” LLP.

During the trip 18 complex landscape descriptions were carried out on representative sites of East-Kazakhstan region, including botanical description of sites and laying of soil transects. At the control points, 103 measurements of soil moisture were made by express method in a meter layer using a kit consisting of ML2 ThetaProbe sensor and HH2 receiver (manufacturer Delta-T Devices Ltd, UK) and a geological drill (manufacturer EIJKELKAMP, Netherlands).

In the course of field work, a register of control points was accumulated using GPS imagery in different types of ground covers for verification of remote sensing data, as well as accumulation and cataloging of reference spectral signatures of landscapes of watershed areas and flood zones of the VKO. The database is being updated and modified in accordance with the work carried out.
