FACES OF THE UNIVERSITY: LENSTA AUBAKIROVA

Lensta Rakhimzhanovna Aubakirova is an honorary citizen of East Kazakhstan, honored teacher of the Republic of Kazakhstan, veteran of labor. She is an example for many by her dedication to her profession.

About herself

In 1957 she entered Ust-Kamenogorsk Pedagogical Institute on physico-mathematical faculty. She received her education in the educational building No. 2, located on Bazhov Street, 7.

-In my student years I together with guys helped to build streetcar tracks and cleaned them from snow. That’s how our young years passed: we worked and studied. I distinctly remember how Yumash Karimovich became rector of UKPI on May 9, 1961. He was introduced as a rector at a solemn event. Yumash Karimovich made a significant contribution to the development of the institute. At that time our institute took the third place among 250 countries due to graduation of qualified specialists.

Activities at the institute

-Since 1969, I started my teaching activity at the university. At the time of leadership of Yerezhep Alkairovich we opened the department “Theory and methodology of pensioner and Komsomol work”. I was appointed its head. I studied the gaps in the system of upbringing in schools and offered the job of the head of educational work. I also tried to make a great contribution to the opening of the historical and pedagogical faculty. Later I worked as a vice-rector for educational work and contributed to the birth of the traditional contest “Student Spring”.

The first foreigners in the history of East Kazakhstan Region

-At that time, East Kazakhstan was a closed region. Without permission from the State Security Committee, foreigners could not visit our region. Then I made an agreement with the committee’s staff and went to Moscow. At the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, I met with an American couple. Then I received copies of their documents and gave them to the State Security Committee and other government agencies. After that, we received permission for the Americans to enter. It was then that our students of the educational programs “Foreign Language” spoke English with native speakers for the first time. In coordination with the head of the Zhambyl Regional Specialized Boarding School for Gifted Children, we invited the Americans to the school. I instructed the school management to welcome them in accordance with the traditions and customs of the Kazakh people. A dombra orchestra of beauties dressed in bright national dresses waited for the Americans at the entrance. Our guests were given a camisole and a chapan. Sitting at the rich dastarkhan the couple admired the nobility and hospitality of the Kazakhs.

Lensta Rakhimzhanovna made a significant contribution to the development of the education system in East Kazakhstan. The professor initiated many events written in the history of the region: the first labor groups of high school students, the first camp for the hard-to-educate “Dzerzhinets

-Now I am reaping the benefits of my labor. I was honored with the titles of Excellent Educator of the Kazakh SSR, Honorary Citizen of the East Kazakhstan Region, Honored Teacher of Kazakhstan.
