A PROJECT OFFICE FOR THE PROTECTION OF CHILDREN’S RIGHTS WAS OPENED IN AMANZHOLOV UNIVERSITY
The opening ceremony of the Project Office for the Protection of Children’s Rights took place today at the S. Amanzholov University. The rector of EKU Mukhtar Tolegen made a welcoming speech and noted that the project office is aimed not only at counselling, but also at scientific and methodological support of schools.
The goal of the project office is to conduct legal consultations, seminars, distance courses, psychological trainings on the protection of children’s rights. Also, to prevent deviant behaviour against children under 18 years of age in educational organisations, and to develop scientific and methodological recommendations on the protection of the rights of orphans and children left without parental care.
– We opened a project office for child protection on the basis of the educational base of EKU. Here, students of the ‘Law’ educational programme provide free legal and psychological assistance to the population in various situations. Even now we together with students and master’s students provide legal assistance to a woman in a difficult situation. The students advised her on how to deal with the case, helped the mother and the child to get the help they are entitled to, – said the Regional Ombudsman for Children’s Rights EKR Aksana Kalenova.
The event continued with a round table on ‘Issues of interaction between government agencies and non-governmental organisations in the field of children’s rights protection in East Kazakhstan region’. As a result of the commissioned project office at the S. Amanzholov EKU, students will make efforts for legal education of children and psychological and pedagogical support.
– I myself studied at the S. Amanzholov University. I am very proud of the fact that highly qualified specialists still teach at the university. The chiefs, prosecutors who are now in service, my classmates, all received their education here. The results of their work show that the educational sphere of the university is comprehensively developed. We are closely connected with the Higher School of Pedagogy and Psychology. When working with children we need the help of a psychologist. At the same time, specialists trained by the EKU are in demand,’ said Saniya Tutkanbayeva, chairwoman of the EKU Specialised Interdistrict Juvenile Court.
Representatives of the projects ‘Ana Yiyi’, ‘Jan ana’, ‘Social Calculator’ and ‘Social Needs Map’ told about their daily work.
At the end of the event, a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Regional Ombudsperson for Children’s Rights of East Kazakhstan region and the Regional Centre for Psychological Support was signed.
