SEMINAR ON DEVELOPING DIGITAL LITERACY FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS

Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University hosted a two-day seminar titled “Developing Functional Digital Literacy for Children with Special Educational Needs in Kazakhstan: Assistive Technologies.”

The event was organized through the joint initiative of the Altynsarin National Academy of Education, UNICEF Kazakhstan, and the Experience Dissemination Center for Supporting Inclusive Education in Secondary Schools.

The purpose of the seminar was to create favorable conditions in schools to support inclusive education and to enhance the practical use of functional digital literacy and assistive technologies.

Among the participants were educational psychologists, speech and language pathologists, computer science teachers, and special education professionals.

The seminar program covered topics such as the content of inclusive education, alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) systems, understanding a child’s communication level, Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), the CBoard app, communication outcome assessment, and setting AAC goals for children with ASD.

Over the course of two days, specialists took part in practical training sessions and mastered modern technologies and methods in the field of inclusive education.
