A SCIENTIFIC SEMINAR ON ECOLOGY, DEVELOPMENT, AND INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION WAS HELD AT AMANZHOLOV UNIVERSITY
At the Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University, in the Salvatore Quasimodo Italian Center, a scientific seminar titled “Integration of Sustainable Development: The University’s Response to the Global Environmental Agenda” was held, dedicated to ecology, sustainable development, and international cooperation in education.
The opening address was delivered by Irina Rovnyakova, Deputy Chairperson of the EKU Board, Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and International Relations. She emphasized the importance of scientific collaboration between universities and international projects, drawing attention to pressing tasks in the field of sustainable development.
During the seminar, several international experts presented their research. Professor Javier Rodrigo Illari (Polytechnic University of Valencia, UPV Valencia) gave a presentation titled “Water Resource Management and Environmental Risks: Europe’s ‘Green’ Idea,” and Professor Alessandro Figus (University of Cassino and Southern Lazio, CEO INNOCREA) shared insights on “Environmental Public Policy of the European Union: Rational Resource Use and Climate Change Mitigation Measures.” A Q&A session followed the presentations.
Professors Illari and Figus also presented information about the European Erasmus+ projects — TECGREMED and LESLIE — discussing the implementation mechanisms for scientific projects, international partnerships, and academic exchange.
Additionally, Aleksandr Chursin, Professor of the Department of Ecology and Geography at EKU and Candidate of Geographical Sciences, presented a report titled “Water Resources of Eastern Kazakhstan,” providing a scientific analysis of the region’s hydrological potential and ecosystem issues.
The seminar concluded with Professor Diana Spulber (University of Genoa, Security and Freedom Foundation, CEO INNOCREA), who highlighted the importance of expanding international scientific ties and shared recommendations for future projects.
The seminar was attended by faculty members and professors of the Department of Ecology and Geography, master’s and doctoral students, as well as the Dean and Deputy Dean of the Higher School of IT and Natural Sciences. The meeting served as a platform for scientific exchange, establishing new academic contacts, and familiarizing participants with international experience.
This academic event strengthened collaboration between researchers in Kazakhstan and Europe and provided a venue for discussing key environmental issues. Amanzholov University plans to continue actively participating in such projects and supporting international initiatives.
