DEVELOPMENT OF PARENTING COMPETENCIES OF AMANZHOLOV UNIVERSITY STUDENTS: OPEN TRAINING ON POSITIVE PARENTING

At the Department of Psychology and Special Education, an open training session was held aimed at developing parenting skills among students. The event was part of a four-week series of trainings focused on fostering a conscious approach to child-rearing and understanding the role of a parent in a child’s personal development.

The training, titled “THE POWER OF ATTENTION: HOW A CHILD’S BEHAVIOR CHANGES THROUGH PARENTAL FOCUS,” was led by Arzu, a fourth-year student of the “Psychology” educational program. During the session, participants had the opportunity to explore parenting strategies through the lens of practical experience and contemporary psycho-pedagogical approaches.

A distinctive feature of the training was the combination of positive parenting principles, elements of the TRIPLE P program, and traditions of Islamic pedagogy. This integrative approach allowed students to gain a deeper understanding of the connection between cultural values and modern scientific methods of child-rearing.

The practical component of the training focused on simulating real-life parent-child interactions. Participants worked through typical scenarios, including the “noisy child,” the “interrupting child,” the “protesting child,” and the “fussy child.” During these exercises, students practiced step-by-step parenting techniques aimed at fostering children’s self-regulation and building effective interaction.

The open training format encouraged active participant engagement, the development of reflective skills, and the acquisition of practical competencies necessary for future professional work. Special attention was given to understanding one’s own position as a future parent and as a professional working with children and families.

Conducting such events highlights the importance of practice-oriented learning in higher education and contributes to the preparation of competent specialists capable of effectively applying modern parenting approaches in their professional activities.
