DEVELOPMENT OF THE INSTITUTE OF MEDIATION IN THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN: INTERNATIONAL ROUND TABLE AT AMANZHOLOV UNIVERSITY
At Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University, an international round table titled “Development of the Institute of Mediation in the Republic of Kazakhstan” was held, timed to coincide with the 15th anniversary of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On Mediation.”
The event aimed to analyze the stages of the development of mediation legislation, discuss current issues in law enforcement practice, and identify prospects for further improvement of the mediation institute in Kazakhstan.
The round table was conducted in a hybrid format, with both in-person and online participation. The program included keynote presentations, Q&A sessions, discussions, and open-floor speeches, allowing participants to examine mediation issues from both scientific and practical perspectives.
Participants included judges from the East Kazakhstan region, representatives of the legal community, professional mediators, faculty members of the Department of Law, and university students.
The event was moderated by Marianna Dyachuk, Associate Professor of the Department of Law at Amanzholov University, Candidate of Law, and Director of the East Kazakhstan branch of the National Chamber of Mediators.
The welcoming address was delivered by Laila Saduyakasova, Head of the Department of Law at Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University and Master of Law, who emphasized the importance of the mediation institute as an effective mechanism for alternative dispute resolution and the crucial role of educational institutions in shaping the legal culture of society. She highlighted the department’s active integration of mediation topics into the curriculum, research activities, and practical student training.
Additionally, Eldos Zhumaksanov, Head of the Department of Judicial Administration in Astana, Candidate of Law, and professional mediator, addressed participants, emphasizing the practical significance of mediation in reducing court workloads and increasing public trust in the legal system.
Special attention during the event was given to the role of Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University in developing the mediation institute. The university consistently serves as an educational and research platform for discussing current legal issues, training future lawyers and mediators, and fostering partnerships with judicial bodies, professional associations, and international experts. Events like this contribute to building a professional environment focused on dialogue, legal consensus, and modern conflict resolution methods.
It is worth noting that international partners from the Russian Federation and Republic of Belarus also participated, sharing significant scientific and practical experience in mediation. Their presentations highlighted international practices in student and business mediation, as well as approaches to professional training for mediators.
Reports were also presented by representatives of the judiciary and professional mediator community, addressing judicial and extrajudicial mediation, current law enforcement challenges, and prospects for the development of the mediation institute in Kazakhstan.
At the conclusion of the round table, participants emphasized the high practical significance of the topics discussed and concluded that such events foster collaboration between science, education, and law enforcement practice, while contributing to the continued development of the mediation institute in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
