NAURYZ-2025: YURTS NAMED AFTER KAZAKH EDUCATORS

Seven snow-white yurts were spread all over the territory of the university as part of the Nauryz celebration “Under One Shanyrak”. Among them the yurts dedicated to two significant dates attracted special attention: the 180th anniversary of the great poet and educator Abai Kunanbayev and the 80th anniversary of the famous teacher and literary critic Kanipa Bitibayeva.

In the yurt named after Abay, they demonstrated the ancient Kazakh custom of Tusau kesu, symbolizing the first steps of children into a bright future. The important mission was entrusted to Amerkhan Rakhimzhanov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of East Kazakhstan University. As a sign of respect at the end of the ceremony the organizers put on the guest of honor a memorable gift – a Kazakh chapan.

– Our large yurt, dedicated to the great thinker and founder of Kazakh written literature, is decorated with various ornaments and white felt. Such yurts used to belong exclusively to noble Kazakhs, who hospitably welcomed relatives and friends. Today the university continues these traditions, emphasizing the preservation and development of national values,” East Kazakhstan University representatives said.

In the yurt dedicated to Kanipa Bitibaeva, a dastarkhan with national dishes was set up. The guests were also told about the significant works of Kanipa Bitibayeva, who influenced the development of Kazakh literature and the system of teaching literature in Kazakhstan.

East Kazakhstan University teacher Shyryn Sultanbekova emphasized that the decoration of this yurt is aimed at popularizing national traditions. According to her, the university aims to show the young generation the rich heritage of Kazakh steppe culture.
