REGIONAL YOUTH CHEMISTRY OLYMPIAD HELD AT AMANZHOLOV UNIVERSITY

At the Department of Chemistry of the Higher School of IT and Natural Sciences of Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University, a youth chemistry olympiad was held among eighth and ninth grade students from city and regional schools.

The olympiad was conducted in two stages. The qualifying stage was held using distance learning technologies. Participant registration took place on February 24, 2026. Fifty students from Kazakh classes and twelve students from Russian classes applied. Testing took place on February 26, 2026, online using the Google Forms platform.

The theoretical and practical stage also took place on February 26, 2026, online and was organized by the Department of Chemistry. Participants included:

  • 8th grade (Kazakh classes) — 25 students

  • 8th grade (Russian classes) — 4 students

  • 9th grade (Kazakh classes) — 25 students

  • 9th grade (Russian classes) — 8 students

Participants completed theoretical and creative tasks and solved problems to identify substances based on qualitative reactions in a mental experiment format. The maximum score was 100 points.

The opening of the olympiad was held in a ceremonial setting. The acting head of the Department of Chemistry, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Bakyt Kaliaskarovna Shaikhova, delivered a welcome speech and wished the participants success.

Associate Professor, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Batima Smataevna Tantybaeva, who initiated the olympiad, familiarized the students with the participation rules and evaluation criteria.

By decision of the jury, the prize places were distributed as follows:

1st place:

  • Dilyara Oralbekova (9th grade, Kazakh-medium), KGU “Rykov Secondary School”, Katon-Karagay District

  • Ayala Tairovna Valitova (9th grade, Russian-medium), Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Physics and Mathematics, Ust-Kamenogorsk

2nd place:

  • Asylnaz Serikovna Kasenova (8th grade, Kazakh-medium), KGU “School-Lyceum No. 3 named after Shokan Ualikhanov”, Ust-Kamenogorsk

  • Sergey Sergeyevich Shipunov (8th grade, Russian-medium), KGU “School-Lyceum No. 11”, Ust-Kamenogorsk

3rd place:

  • Kausar Aidoskyzy (8th grade, Kazakh-medium), KGU “Secondary School No. 47”, Ust-Kamenogorsk

  • Kira Koval (9th grade, Russian-medium), KGU “Secondary School No. 23 named after M. Shayakhmetov”

The winners were awarded special diplomas, and their scientific supervisors received letters of appreciation on behalf of the university rector.

The youth chemistry olympiad was an important event for developing students’ subject knowledge, increasing their interest in natural sciences, and strengthening the university’s career guidance work with schools in the East Kazakhstan region.
