STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN KAZAKHSTAN AND CHINA: THE ROLE OF ALMA MATER

Kazakhstan and China have always been important strategic partners. The head of Kazakhstan at the meeting in September 2025 in Beijing stressed that China is a reliable neighbor, close friend and eternal strategic partner of our country. Kasym-Jomart Tokayev noted that China has invested 27 billion dollars in the economy of Kazakhstan. The President outlined priority areas of cooperation with China in the energy sector, key projects to diversify Kazakhstan’s economy, proposed to develop organic production and emphasized the importance of close cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence. The President also called for strengthening Kazakh-Chinese business contacts in the financial sector.

COOPERATION IN EDUCATION AND SCIENCE

Today the parties continue to expand and deepen cooperation in the field of education and science. The partnership of S. Amanzholov Higher Education Institution with universities and enterprises of the People’s Republic of China is significantly expanding, especially in the last five years. The parties jointly implement various projects within the framework of sustainable development goals of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries. WKU has signed agreements with Qingdao University, Shandong Foreign Trade Vocational College, and Yili Pedagogical University. More than 70 Chinese students have studied at the university within the framework of the academic mobility program. In turn, the universities of China have trained more than 50 students of EKU.

PARTNERSHIP WITH HAIER: DIGITAL PROJECTS

In April 2024, the University delegation visited Qingdao, where a cooperation agreement was signed with HAIER HAITECH, which is the world’s fourth largest company producing household appliances. The agreement is aimed at the realization of the projects “Smart library” and “AI Smart classroom” on the basis of S. Amanzholov EKU.

INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON DIGITALIZATION OF EDUCATION

In August 2024, the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek initiated an international seminar on practical digital solutions for the transformation of universities based on the experience of the People’s Republic of China in order to implement the President’s policy in the field of digitalization. Then the Kazakh delegation, which included the rector of WKU Mukhtar Tolegen, chaired by Vice-Minister of Science and Higher Education Dinara Rinatovna Scheglova visited the city of Shenzhen.

VISIT OF THE CONSULATE GENERAL OF CHINA TO ALMATY AND TRAINING OF STUDENTS

On September 6, 2024, representatives of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Almaty visited S. Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University. From October 2024 to May 2025, students of Harbin Institute of Technology Chen Yunzhui, as well as Shi Bowen and Saidjamol Gafurov from Jilin Construction University studied Russian in the walls of EKU, improving their language skills.

EDUCATIONAL EXHIBITION IN URUMQI

In May 2025, representatives of Amanzholov University took part in the international educational exhibition “Study in Kazakhstan”, which was held in Urumqi. The event was held on the basis of Urumqi Vocational University within the framework of the first meeting of education ministers of the SCO member countries in the format “Central Asia – China”.

VISIT OF PROFESSOR FROM PEKING AND SCIENTIFIC INTERACTION

On April 25, 2025, Rector Mukhtar Tolegen held a meeting with Professor of Beijing Pedagogical University and Director of the Institute of World History Research of China. Professor Zhang Jianhua, who researches the culture of Central Asian peoples and the theory of regional studies in China, gave a lecture for young historians of Amanzholov University, emphasizing the importance of scientific internships and practical training.

EKU IS A MEMBER OF THE INTERNATIONAL ALLIANCE FOR CHINESE LANGUAGE EDUCATION

In July 2025, EKU joined the International Alliance for Cooperation in Chinese Language Education between the universities of the SCO countries, which shows the positive dynamics in the development of cooperation between our countries.

EDUCATION WITHOUT BORDERS: ONLINE DIALOG OF TEACHERS

On September 9, 2025, the online meeting “Education Without Borders: Mastery Unites Dreams” – a dialog between Chinese and Kazakh vocational education teachers was held, where our university also participated. The event is designed to become a platform for experience exchange between vocational education teachers from China and Kazakhstan.

UPCOMING STUDENT INTERNSHIP IN SHANDONG

From September 15 to November 23, 2025, students of S. Amanzholov VCU will have an internship in Shandong Foreign Trade College within the framework of the agreement between the two universities.

THE UNIVERSITY IS AN ACTIVE PARTICIPANT IN PROMOTING THE IDEAS OF THE SHANGHAI COOPERATION ORGANIZATION

Today, Kazakhstan-China cooperation is characterized by high dynamics, and S. Amanzholov University is an active participant in promoting the ideas of the SCO in the East of Kazakhstan.
