Department of foreign languages and translation
In 1988, the “Foreign Language” specialty was established at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, offering the qualification of “Teacher of English and German Languages.” In 1991, an independent degree-granting Department of the German Language was founded, with Natalia Gennadyevna Senchenkova, Candidate of Philological Sciences, appointed as its first head.
In 1997, a new specialty, “Translation Studies,” was introduced at the faculty, leading to the qualification of “Translator-Referent.”
In May 2002, an independent degree-granting Department of Theory and Practice of Translation was established to train students in translation with English as their primary foreign language. Translation disciplines were also taught to students majoring in “Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages.”
In 2006, the Department of the German Language was merged with the Department of Theory and Practice of Translation and renamed the Department of Language and Translation. In 2012, it merged with the Department of Practical Foreign Languages, and in 2013, with the Department of the English Language. Currently, the Department of Foreign Languages and Translation employs 25 faculty members, including 7 PhDs / Candidates of Sciences and 18 Masters of Education.
The department regularly invites native speakers and volunteers. Since 2019, Gul Banu and Sadullah Duman from Bülent Ecevit Zonguldak University (Turkey) have been teaching Turkish as a second foreign language. Since 2020, English and Korean language instruction has also been supported by volunteers from the United States and South Korea.
The Department of Foreign Languages and Translation conducts research under the unified theme: “Structural-semantic and comparative-typological analysis of linguistic phenomena in different language systems, and linguo-pedagogical and methodological issues of language learning and translation.”

- Publications in international journals and teaching aids. Active participation in conferences at universities in Jakarta, Linden, Freiburg, and other institutions.
- Prof. Zhang E.E. — Chairman of the jury of the regional English Olympiad; scientific consultant of the Research Specialised Centre "Vostok" for gifted children.
- Cooperation with ACCELS, British Council, US Embassy, Korean Centre, DAAD, and the Goethe-Institut. Student research circles meet monthly: "Linguistic Theory and Practice of German and English", "Onomastic Research".
