NELSON MANDELA RULES IN ACTION

In “Institution #17 of the Committee of Criminal Executive System of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan” a seminar was held by Kuat Rakhimberdin, professor of the university, Doctor of Law. The seminar is dedicated to training of prison staff on the Nelson Mandela Rules, known as the Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners.

The training covered the human treatment of prisoners, prevention of torture, ensuring the health of prisoners and creating conditions for successful rehabilitation. The need to respect the rights of prisoners was emphasized.

The participants received practical skills and tools necessary for effective interaction with prisoners in accordance with international standards. Such training events contribute to the development of a humane approach in the penitentiary system of Kazakhstan and the creation of conditions for decent treatment of prisoners in accordance with international human rights standards.

Professor Kuat Rakhimberdin donated to the library of the institution his own scientific research on topical issues of penal activity and labor legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
