THE OPENING CEREMONY OF THE YURI K. UVALIEV AUDITORIUM WAS HELD
Balloons, solemn music and a red ribbon. At the alma mater held the opening ceremony of the auditorium named after Y. K. Uvaliev – the first rector of EKU and honored worker of higher school of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The event was attended by Rector Mukhtar Tolegen, representatives of the Board of Directors of the university, vice-rectors, teachers and students of the Higher School of IT and Natural Sciences. Also at the ceremony arrived specially invited professor of KazNU named after Al-Farabi, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, Vice-President of the European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education Programs Mukhambetkali Burkitbayev.
-Ust-Kamenogorsk Pedagogical Institute headed by Yumash Karimovich was among the five best pedagogical institutes of the USSR. Three times the staff of the institute was awarded with the Red Banner of the All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions. Graduates of the university are successfully employed on high positions in large corporations and enterprises of the country and the world. This speaks of competent and far-sighted leadership, professionalism of the head, for which we thank Yumash Karimovich to this day, – said Mukhtar Adilbekovich.
The new auditorium is designed for lectures. It is equipped with comfortable furniture, a TV set and a modern interactive panel. A custom-made oil portrait of the revered chemist stands on the wall. Besides, personal belongings of Mr. Uvaliev, given to the university by his relatives, are kept here. In particular, the order of appointment as rector of UKPI, letters of commendation, author’s monographs and manuscripts.
-For many years Yumash Karimovich himself gave lectures on chemical technology in this very auditorium. This man stood at the origins of the university and made an invaluable contribution to its development. That is why we were extremely glad when renovation works were initiated by our rector Mukhtar Adilbekovich. Now we have everything we need for quality classes. We are especially happy that the younger generation will know and remember the first rector of EKU, – said Bakyt Shaihova, Head of the Chemistry Department.
Let’s remind, in 1960 Y.K. Uvaliev was appointed director of Ust-Kamenogorsk Pedagogical Institute, and after recertification – rector. He worked in this position for 24 years.
