STUDENTS OF AMANZHOLOV UNIVERSITY MET WITH VETERANS OF THE AFGHAN WAR
35 years ago Soviet troops were withdrawn from the territory of Afghanistan after the end of the Afghan War. From 1979 to 1989, more than 22 thousand Kazakhs were involved, of whom 889 died and about 30 were missing.
In honor of this significant date, students of S. Amanzholov VCU met with veterans. During the meeting Zhanneta Kalimoldina, vice-rector for educational and social work, presented the veterans with letters of thanks, badges and money certificates worth 50,000 tenge. The event continued with a vocal performance and poetry from the student theater “Shabyt”. In addition, the head of the Department of History of Kazakhstan and social and humanitarian disciplines Lyazzat Zhamanbaeva made a report on “International-political prerequisites of the Afghan War”.
At the meeting, veterans recalled the hardships of the war years and the touching moments of returning home.
– I went to war voluntarily after 10th grade. During the war years the climatic conditions on the Afghan land were very harsh. It was hot and sultry. After so many years, I still remember the joy of hearing about the end of the war,” the veteran said.
– My father also participated in this battle, so this meeting was special for me,” said student Erasyl Maratov.
The event ended with a conversation between students and guests of the university.
It should be noted that among the staff of the university there are veterans of the Afghan war. In particular, senior lecturer of the military department named after Kabanbai batyr Kairat Mareuov, head of the workshop of the Department of Physics and Technology Toleubek Rakhyshev, senor-lecturer of the Department of STEM, Culture and Sports Andrei Kozhukhovsky and lecturer of the military department named after Kabanbai batyr Akylbek Samkenov.
