MEMORY FOR THE FUTURE: EKU CELEBRATED THE DAY OF REMEMBRANCE OF VICTIMS OF REPRESSION AND FAMINE
The international round table was held in the framework of the ANC cultural project “Tarikhtan tagylym – өtkenge tagzym” – “Memory for the Future”. It was attended by the management and faculty of EKU S. Amanzholov, foreign and domestic experts, scientific community of the region, representatives of the Akimat of East Kazakhstan Oblast, students, descendants of the repressed and deported.
Speakers at the conference, historians and experts discussed modern approaches to covering data on political repression, exchanged views on preserving the memory of the victims. In particular, scholars from the Dorzhi Banzarov Buryat State University presented their reports in the online format.
As Irina Rovnyakova, Vice-Rector of EKU S. Amanzholov, noted, since the first days of independence, on behalf of the country’s leadership, systematic work has been carried out to rehabilitate and restore historical justice to the victims of political persecution, victims of camps, famine and deportations.
– We pay tribute to the victims of political repressions and famine,” Irina Rovnyakova emphasized. – We should cherish the memory of the hardest trials that fell to the share of our people in the 20s and 30s of the last century.
Associate Professor of the Department of History of Kazakhstan and Social and Humanitarian Disciplines EKU S. Amanzholova Raushan Nurbekova in her report noted that the memory and grief for the victims of Stalinist repressions should be a factor of unity and cohesion of the Kazakh people.
– Annually on May 31 we celebrate the Day of memory of victims of political repressions and famine according to the decree of the President of RK from April 5, 1997, – has drawn attention of the professor. – For the people of Kazakhstan this day has a special meaning. Crimes of totalitarianism touched almost every family in one way or another. This is the day that unites, and our duty – to remember these tragic events of history that such in the future will not repeat.
At the same time, according to Raushan Nurbekova, a huge number of repressed people are still not rehabilitated and there is a lot of work to be done in this direction.
According to the information of Elena Kostina, deputy director of KSU “State Archive” of the regional department of digitalization and archives, according to the results of the work of the state commission for full rehabilitation of victims of political repression on EKR identified 6100 repressed persons subject to rehabilitation.
Also in the framework of the event was held a book exhibition “Tarikhtan tagylym – otkenge tagzym”, prepared by the scientific library of EKU S. Amanzholov, as well as presented a video presentation “Memory, which will not be forgotten”.
