The rare books fund of the library is a special value of the University. It includes more than 13 thousand editions of the XVIII-XX centuries. Among them are books, brochures, magazines, atlases and visual materials in Russian, German, French, English and other languages.
The earliest edition dates back to 1738. It is the first Russian encyclopedia on housekeeping, a book by the German economist and writer Florinus Francis Philip “Florinus Economia”. The rarest encyclopedic edition, one of the first popular scientific publications of the Academy of Sciences in Russian.
The book was printed at the command of Empress Anna Ioannovna. Instead of a preface – an address to the Great Sovereign Empress Anna Ioannovna, the Sovereign of All Russia. The Encyclopedia consists of nine books: “On Housekeeping”, “On Building, on Materials”, “On Farming”, “On Gardens and Grapes”, “On Horses and Animals”, “On Silk Worms, on Bees, on Ponds”, “On Baking Bread, on Brewing Beer”, “On Anatomy and Medicines”, “On Cookery”.
“Florin’s Economy” gives advice on the best way to run a household, on the duties of a householder towards his family, neighbors, subjects, on methods of construction, the arrangement of gardens and ponds, brewing beer, caring for horses, medicines, etc.
Among the information about nature and medicine one can find a lot of useful tips. There are also culinary recipes for French soup, apple, duli, plum and cherry jam, bread pies, salads, pickling cucumbers and others.
It should be noted that the unique copy is presented in the B. Mamraev scientific library in Amanzholov University, which has more than 10,000 books.
