PRACTICAL MEASURES TO COUNTER CORRUPTION WERE ANNOUNCED

A national round table “The role of civil society in combating corruption” was held at Amanzholov University. The event was organized by the Department of the Anti-Corruption Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the East Kazakhstan region and the Department of Jurisprudence of the university. The purpose of the roundtable was to discuss effective ways to counter corruption. The participants were a deputy of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Chairman of the Public Council of the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Combating Corruption, Doctor of Law Marat Bashimov, First Deputy Head of the Department of the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Combating Corruption in East Kazakhstan region Talgat Bashev, deputies, representatives of public organizations, anti-corruption volunteers, as well as students and teachers of Amanzholov University.

During the roundtable, those present discussed the forms of civil society participation in the field of anti-corruption and ways to improve the effectiveness of anti-corruption measures.

-All components of civil society should be interested in establishing an effective anti-corruption system: the private sector, public organizations, religious figures, the press, professional organizations and, of course, ordinary citizens,” said Marat Bashimov.

Thus, in order to expand public participation in combating corruption since August 2023, the Anti-Corruption Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan initiated the project “Anti-corruption volunteering”.

More than 2.6 thousand volunteers monitor the effectiveness of budget spending and problematic issues in the regions, participate in the organization of anti-corruption activities, creation of social videos, etc. Thanks to the work of volunteers, overcharging of state purchases for the amount of more than three billion tenge was prevented.

-In addition, active and systematic work on combating corruption is also carried out in Amanzholov University. The main direction in this activity is the formation of anti-corruption culture of students and employees, – said Irina Rovnyakova, vice-rector for strategic development and international cooperation.

At the end of the round table, the participants proposed a number of practical measures to counteract corruption. In particular, the creation of a special mobile application, mandatory advanced training for compliance officers and regular organization of anti-corruption events.
