OPEN LECTURE: THE IMPACT OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ON FOREIGN LANGUAGE LEARNING

One of the most debatable topics in modern education – artificial intelligence. This topic received a lively discussion among the senior students of EP ‘6B01703 Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages’ at the discipline ‘Methods of teaching foreign languages’. Senior lecturer of the Department of Foreign Languages and Translation Kozlova A.L. in the framework of the grant of Goethe-Institut in Kazakhstan, dedicated to the celebration of the 30th anniversary, held an open lecture for students on the theme: ‘Künstliche Intelligenz im Fremdsprachenunterricht’. The students were presented with the latest scientific research of leading German scientists and pedagogues on the influence of artificial intelligence on teaching foreign languages at school and university. The results were quite interesting but controversial. Many students actively participated in the discussion, and the cases of creating lessons with the help of ChatGPT caused both excitement and indignation. The controversial issues of copyright preservation, uniqueness of developments and possibilities of using interactive applications for learning a foreign language left no one indifferent and everyone left with open questions, which further fuelled interest in the topic.

The session was also held among German language teachers, the links to game applications were taken by the teachers to use them in their lessons.
