EAST KAZAKHSTAN UNIVERSITY CONTINUES ITS FIGHT AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE
In order for Kazakhstan to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals, S. Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University is constantly working to combat climate change.
Climate change has a significant impact on the frequency and intensity of precipitation in our country. Due to the impact, the frequency of floods in major cities and regions of the country has increased. Last year, the western region flooded and most of the houses were under water. Thousands of people were evacuated and relocated to safety. Due to the incessant rains, the risk of flooding remains in some regions. Therefore, work aimed at preventing accidents requires continuous work.
Researchers at the university are developing a number of research projects aimed at combating climate change. For example, Amanzholov University students have developed a hydropost that warns of floods. It monitors the level, temperature, transparency and speed of water flow in real time. Establishing a water fund, collecting data on floods and organizing water-saving measures are also important tasks.
Currently, there is a high demand for specialists working on air quality improvement and precipitation determination. In recent years, S. Amanzholov University attaches special importance to the development of science in the region in order to solve environmental problems.
