ZERO HUNGER: THE TANDEM OF SCIENCE AND EDUCATION IN EAST KAZAKHSTAN UNIVERSITY

Ending hunger is one of the key areas among the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. East Kazakhstan University plays an important role in achieving this goal through several avenues. In particular, through the training of specialists. It is not the first year that the alma mater has been training students in the educational program “Technology of processing industries” aimed at food production. Graduates are successfully employed as masters of raw material processing enterprises, technologists, specialists in grain elevators, mills, feed mills, pasta factories, cereal factories, bakeries, confectionery factories.

S. Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University is also approaching the issue of hunger elimination from the scientific side. In the National Scientific Laboratory of collective use for several years, biologists have been collecting and growing elite varieties of potatoes. Today, the impressive collection consists of more than 100 types of “second bread”. For example, Tavria, Izolda, Magister, Eastern-1, Shakird. All potato varieties are under exceptionally “healthy” laboratory conditions, so they are maximally useful and without genetic modification.

-Based on the results of variety trials, our material was included in the State Register of varieties recommended for use in Kazakhstan, – emphasized the researcher of the University Valentina Nikolaeva.

Thus, East Kazakhstan University significantly contributes to the achievement of hunger elimination goals by training a new generation of specialists, conducting research and introducing innovations.
