HOW DOES A REGIONAL UNIVERSITY CONTRIBUTE TO POVERTY ERADICATION?

The link between higher education institutions and poverty eradication within the framework of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals is multifaceted and has several key dimensions.
Education is a direct tool for improving well-being, because the availability of specialized education is a guarantor of employment and prosperous economic situation.

In addition to the direct task of  S. Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University as a university actively realizes other aspects. One of them is social responsibility.

-East Kazakhstan University students and teachers participate in social projects and initiatives aimed at helping vulnerable groups. For example, volunteering, visiting orphanages. Our staff regularly transfers one day’s salary to those affected by emergencies in the country,” said East Kazakhstan University Rector Mukhtar Tolegen.

In addition, according to the head of East Kazakhstan University, the alma mater does not forget about the staff and students. Not so long ago, more than 100 people were awarded with money certificates.

-In response to the Address of the Head of State on the worthy assessment of honest and responsible labor, we awarded 103 money certificates of 200,000 tenge each to employees and 150,000 tenge each to students who worked with dedication during the admission campaign, attracting talented young people from all corners of our country, – said the rector.

Raising salaries, introducing special scholarships, transferring bonuses to the working staff of East Kazakhstan University are also among the effective steps to eliminate poverty, which is one of the 17 global goals of sustainable development.

-The largest university in the East of the country – S. Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University – is not only a large-scale platform for education, but also for employment. We provide thousands of people with jobs, thus developing the local economy,” concluded Mukhtar Tolegen.
