Department of Kazakh Russian Philology and Journalism implements the following professional educational programs of higher education: 6B01701 – Kazakh language and literature, 6B01704 – Kazakh language and literature in schools with non–Kazakh language of instruction, 6B01702 – Russian language and literature, 6B01705 – Training of teachers of Russian language and literature in schools with non-Russian language of instruction, 6B03201 – Journalism training, 7M01701 – Kazakh language and literature, 7M01702 – Training of teachers of Russian language and literature, 8D01701 – The Kazakh language and literature implement professional educational programs of higher education.
Educational programs in the context of modern educational content are aimed at training specialists who possess innovative methods of professional pedagogical activity, modern information technologies in the philological and pedagogical fields, competitive in the modern world.
The department has a highly professional teaching staff, scientific schools “Actual problems of Kazakh literature: “Abayavedenie and Auezov” (Ph.D., Professor Kartaeva A.M.), “Regional problems of onomastics” (Ph.D., associate Professor Alimkhan A.A.), there is a research institute “Abayavedenie”, and There is also an “Abai Center” at the University of Candle (Poland).
Graduates of educational programs are in high demand in the regional labor market. Fruitful work is underway in cooperation with partner employers.
Seminars on professional development and retraining of specialists are held on the basis of the department, scientific work is carried out in professional, pedagogical and creative areas, collections of scientific works of teachers and students of the department are published.
The media center “ALTAI JASTARY” operates in the educational building No. 5 for the specialty “Journalism”, there are specialized classrooms named after S.Amanzholov, Z.Akhmetov, K.Bitibaeva, D. Ashimkhanov, and the lecture hall named after Abai.
Branches of the department are open on the basis of secondary schools and colleges. On the basis of the dual education program, students are trained at the free specialized boarding school named after Zhambyl for gifted children, as well as in schools of the city No. 3, No. 34, No. 47 and in production in the regional newspapers “Didar”, “Rudny Altai”, “My Land”.
There are 33 teaching professors at the department. There is 1 Doctor of Sciences, 15 candidates of Sciences, 17 Masters of Sciences.

The Department of Kazakh, Russian Philology and Journalism attaches great importance to educational work as an important part of the educational process. In addition to the quality education of students, the department conducts comprehensive work aimed at developing their spiritual and moral qualities, assimilating national values, and improving their creative abilities.
The educational work of the department includes several important areas:
- Various events are planned to be held in order to form Kazakhstani patriotism and raise the national spirit. On the eve of Independence Day, Nauryz Meiramy, anniversaries of Abai and other great personalities, scientific and educational evenings and meetings are held. Various literary and cultural events are organized to promote national values.
- Seminars and trainings are held aimed at teaching students such qualities as benevolence, honesty, diligence, responsibility. Literary evenings are organized, where classical works of Kazakh and Russian literature are discussed. Lectures explaining the continuity of religion and traditions are planned, as well as discussions among students.
- Meetings with representatives of law enforcement agencies are held to form a culture of law-abiding among students. Explanatory work is being carried out on the issues of combating corruption and academic integrity.
- Poetry evenings, theatrical performances, and literary contests are organized to develop students' creative abilities. Meetings with famous poets, writers, and journalists are held, which helps to increase students' interest in the art of artistic expression.
- In order to introduce students to socially useful work, clean-up days and environmental actions are organized. Various educational events are held to protect nature and form an ecological culture.
- In order to promote a healthy lifestyle, sports competitions, marathons, and national games are held. Events such as the "Health Festival" and "Sport is a mirror of Life" aimed at promoting health will be organized.
- In order to form the professional ethics of future journalists and develop their creative abilities, meetings are held with well-known journalists and media representatives.
- Various projects are implemented jointly with university or regional publications so that students can gain practical experience.
- Trainings and seminars are organized to teach the culture of proper dissemination of information on social networks.
The educational work of the Department of Kazakh, Russian Philology and Journalism is one of the most important areas ensuring the comprehensive development of students. The department is not limited only to education, but also promotes the spiritual and moral development of future specialists, instilling in them national values. Thanks to such systematic work, students become educated, cultured, responsible, and competitive specialists.
The scientific topic of the department is "The relationship and influence of world-class languages and literature." On the basis of this topic, the teachers of the department conduct research in the following areas::
- Lexical and ethnolinguistic foundations of the vocabulary of the modern Kazakh language (Yensebayeva K.K., Zhylkybayeva A.Sh., Orazalin S.K., Aitmukashova A.A., Kayyrbaeva Zh.K.);
- Comparative historical analysis of the vocabulary of the Kazakh language based on historical toponyms (Biyarov B. N., Alimkhan A. A.);
- The main directions and prospects of the development of literature and culture of Kazakhstan in the global social and cultural space (Kartayeva A.M., Barbosynova K.T., Kelgembayeva B.B., Seiputanova A.K., Kasenov S.T., Mukusheva R.Z., Apysheva K. A.);
- Study of the interaction of the languages of the peoples of Kazakhstan and the sociolinguistic situation in the republic (Sadykova S. T., Ibraeva M. K., Jokanasova H. M., Sapanova A.M.);
- Interpretation of the text: linguistic, literary aspects (Demchenko L. N., Galkina T. V., Sidikhmenova T. I., Kuvshinnikova O. A., Zhakupova R.M., Toktubayeva A.Zh.);
- Innovative methods of philological education in the fields of training (Budnikova N.N., Poltorzhitskaya G.I.),
- actual problems of journalism (Galkina T.V., Berikbolova A.Zh., Bekbosynova G. A.).
Scientific research works of scientists of the department are published in publications recommended by the KKSON; publications included in the Scopus, RSCI databases; international and national publications; conference collections.
The Department of Kazakh, Russian Philology and Journalism closely cooperates with foreign scientific centers: Szeged State University (Hungary), the Scientific Research Institute of the Turkic World of the Ege University (Turkey), Istanbul State University (Turkey), Haji Bayram Veli University (Turkey), Altai State Pedagogical University (Russia), Omsk State Pedagogical University (Russia), Osh State University (Kyrgyzstan), etc.
Teachers of the department from the 1st year involve students in research work and direct it, as a result of which students take part in international, national conferences, publish articles; participate in national, intra-university subject Olympiads, scientific project competitions, and take prizes.
Scientists of the department take part in various competitions, scientific projects, in particular, they won a scientific project on the topic "Onomastics of Kazakhstan in spiritual modernization: a system of anthroponyms and toponyms based on Latin graphics of the East Kazakhstan region" at the state competition of scientific projects organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Students were also involved in this research work.
The scientific circles "Young Journalist", "School of Akyns", and "Sana" are working towards the development of student science.
The department systematically organizes educational and methodological work. The teaching staff compiles educational and methodological complexes and syllabuses of disciplines conducted in educational programs subordinate to the department.
Educational and methodological seminars are planned and regularly conducted during the academic year. At these seminars, modern educational technologies and innovative methods will be analyzed, and issues of their implementation in the educational process will be considered. One of the main directions of the department is the dissemination of teachers' best practices, conducting open lessons, and sharing experiences through participation in teachers' classes.
During the academic year, the teaching staff prepares and publishes textbooks, teaching aids and teaching aids approved by the Republican Educational and Methodological Council and the Academic Council of the University. They also organize advanced training courses for school teachers, provide expert opinions and criticism of teaching aids and methodological works.
Electronic textbooks developed by the faculty of the department have copyright certificates officially registered as intellectual property. This, in turn, will improve the experience of teachers and digitize the educational process.
The department also analyzes the employment of graduates of educational programs, and has established close contact with employers. This will help improve the quality of the training process for future specialists. The teachers also pay attention to the preparation of the final year students to take the OSP. The educational programs provide dual training in order to develop students' professional skills, ensure their adaptation to the labor market and form training in accordance with the requirements of the labor market.
The staff of the department annually organizes and conducts an open methodological decade of the Higher Humanitarian School. This event is an important step towards promoting new methods and practices in the field of education and improving the professional level of teachers.
