AT AMANZHOLOV UNIVERSITY, AN INTERNATIONAL ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE CENTER HAS BEEN OPENED JOINTLY WITH A UNIVERSITY OF MALAYSIA
At Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University, the International Artificial Intelligence Center “AI Amanzholov” was officially opened in partnership with one of Malaysia’s leading universities, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI). The opening ceremony was attended by the Vice Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Gulzat Kobenova.
The launch of the center became a continuation of international agreements recently signed by Amanzholov University with UPSI and leading scientific organizations of Malaysia. The parties have already agreed on joint research in the field of artificial intelligence, technology exchange, and the launch of new educational programs. This cooperation strengthens the international position of Amanzholov University and provides students with access to global AI projects.
The establishment of the AI center reflects the priorities outlined by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who emphasizes the need for large-scale implementation of artificial intelligence in the economy, education, and the training of future professionals. The projects presented at the center directly correspond to these strategic priorities.
During the opening, key digital initiatives of Amanzholov University were demonstrated to the Vice Minister. Among them was the national Ai-Sana program, aimed at developing digital skills and supporting deeptech startups. The program covers around 100,000 participants and includes training in programming, data analysis, digital literacy, and practical projects, as well as access to the Coursera and Astana Hub platforms in Kazakh, Russian, and English.
Particular interest was drawn by the intelligent agent Ai-Ustaz, developed by the university’s IT center. It is already capable of automatically creating tests, flashcards, e-courses, and assignments, and is expected to become a full-fledged pedagogical tool to support teachers in the future. Students also presented the socially significant Telegram bot “AntiBullying,” which provides anonymous support to victims and witnesses of bullying. Another innovation showcased was a hybrid system for assessing the quality of Python code, combining static analysis with recommendations from an LLM model, thereby increasing the objectivity of evaluating student work.
The university’s research laboratory presented projects on flood forecasting and monitoring water regimes in agricultural systems, based on LSTM models, satellite data, and explainable AI methods. The “Dana Bala” center demonstrated digital services for inclusive education, including an educational web portal, intelligent bots, an interactive game library, and tools for developing financial and legal literacy among children with special needs.
In addition, Gulzat Kobenova visited the upgraded Coursera laboratory and a modern video recording studio equipped with an LED panel and professional equipment for creating high-quality educational content.
Following the visit, the Vice Minister noted that Amanzholov University demonstrates a systematic approach to developing digital competencies and actively supports the state strategy for the implementation of artificial intelligence. The opening of the international AI center marked an important step in strengthening the region’s scientific potential and training specialists for the digital economy.
Further activities of the center will be developed in close cooperation with UPSI. Joint research, technology exchange, and international educational projects will further enhance the position of Amanzholov University and create new opportunities for students and researchers of Kazakhstan in the field of artificial intelligence.
