AT AMANZHOLOV UNIVERSITY, THE RESULTS OF THE REGIONAL SCHOOL STUDENTS’ OLYMPIAD WERE SUMMARIZED

From November 10 to 24, 2025, the Department of Kazakh and Russian Philology and Journalism at Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University hosted a regional Olympiad in Russian language, literature, and journalism for school students. This traditional event is held annually and aims to support talented youth and guide future applicants in their career choices.

This year, more than 100 students from grades 9–11 of schools in Ust-Kamenogorsk and the surrounding districts applied to participate. In the first, remote stage, students submitted essays on one of the proposed topics. Only half of the participants who scored the highest points advanced to the second stage — an in-person competition that included tasks in Russian language and literature, as well as a creative presentation of a journalism assignment.

The in-person stage took place on November 24. Participants not only completed the competition tasks but also immersed themselves in the atmosphere of their future professional environment.

Each participant demonstrated strong individual abilities — literacy, erudition, creative thinking, and skill in working with texts. The jury noted the high level of preparation among both city and rural students.

The winners of the Olympiad were as follows. Among schools with Kazakh-language instruction, in the “Journalism” category, Alua Gumarova from Secondary School No. 1 named after Shakarim stood out. In the “Literature” category, the winner was Alina Toktarkanova from School-Lyceum No. 3 named after Shokan Ualikhanov. The best result in Russian language was achieved by Aigerim Muktarkhanova from OSShGI OD named after Zhambyl.

Among schools with Russian-language instruction, the winner in the “Journalism” category was Anna Klimoshenko from School-Lyceum No. 11 in Ust-Kamenogorsk. In the “Literature” category, the best was Kira Brikhova from School-Gymnasium No. 10. In the “Russian Language” category, the winner was Teya Zhampeisova, also representing School-Gymnasium No. 10.

Such events are not just competitions; they provide a space for growth, self-discovery, and professional orientation. Participants had the opportunity to try themselves as journalists, discuss creative ideas, ask questions to teachers, and, most importantly, gain confidence in their abilities.

Students from the department prepared a small presentation for the schoolchildren about educational programs, academic projects, creative studios, and notable graduates in philology and journalism. The event concluded with friendly interaction, shared emotions, and an invitation to become part of the university’s academic community in the future.
