A GUEST LECTURE WAS HELD AT AMANZHOLOV UNIVERSITY ON THE TOPIC: “THE LIVING MOSAIC OF NATURE: STRUCTURE AND FUNCTIONS OF THE LANDSCAPE”

At the Department of Ecology and Geography of Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University, a guest lecture was organized on the topic: “The Living Mosaic of Nature: Structure and Functions of the Landscape.” The event took place in the conference hall of the university’s eighth academic building and was attended by second-year students of the “Ecology” educational program.

The guest lecture was delivered by Ksenia Bogdanova, a doctoral student of the “Bioecological Engineering” program at the Kazakh National Research Technical University named after K.I. Satpayev, a staff member of the Plant Biology and Biotechnology Laboratory at the National Shared-Use Scientific Laboratory of Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University, and Z.K. Zhaznaeva, a lecturer at the Department of Ecology and Geography.

During the lecture, modern scientific approaches were discussed, presenting the landscape as an integrated system in which all components are closely interconnected and perform specific functions. Special attention was given to the concept of the “living mosaic of nature,” which allows the study of urban and park landscapes as dynamic structures that combine ecological, engineering-planning, and social aspects.

Students were introduced to the fundamental principles of creating sustainable landscape solutions. In particular, detailed explanations were provided on functional zoning of territories, planning movement scenarios, creating compositional frameworks, layering of vegetation, and criteria for selecting plants for urban environments and parks, taking into account stress factors and maintenance requirements.

The session also included an exchange of experiences: students discussed practical examples of landscape design and asked questions about applying a systemic approach in ecological practice.

The guest lecture contributed to the development of students’ ecological and spatial thinking, as well as a deeper understanding of the importance of landscape design in creating a comfortable and sustainable urban environment.
