OPEN DIALOGUE WITH INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS HELD AT AMANZHOLOV UNIVERSITY
Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University held a meeting between Irina Vladimirovna Rovnyakova, Vice Rector for Strategic Development and International Cooperation, and international students. Participants discussed issues related to education, safety, dormitory living conditions, and adaptation to the University environment.
Today, more than 160 international students study at the University. During the current academic year, students from Indonesia, Morocco, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan have joined the University community. The University also welcomes students from China, Azerbaijan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, and other countries.
During the meeting, particular attention was paid to dormitory safety and compliance with residence rules. A survey was conducted among international students to assess their satisfaction with the educational process and living conditions. Participants also discussed difficulties that may arise while adapting to a new academic and social environment.
The system of support for international students was addressed separately. The discussion focused on whether students know whom to contact for assistance and whether they are familiar with their curators, supervisors, and buddy students who help them adapt to University life.
In an open dialogue format, students were able to ask the Vice Rector questions directly, share their experiences, and raise issues requiring attention. Irina Vladimirovna took matters requiring additional consideration under her personal supervision. Further work will be carried out on these issues, with subsequent feedback provided to the students.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Department of Quality Assurance and International Cooperation and the University inspector responsible for working with international students.
The meeting helped identify current issues related to the education and everyday lives of international students. The feedback received will be taken into account in the University’s further work to improve living conditions and develop its support system for international students.
