SEMINAR ON CLEAN WATER AND WATER RESOURCE CONSERVATION HELD AT AMANZHOLOV UNIVERSITY

The Department of Ecology and Geography of the Higher School of IT and Natural Sciences at Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University held a seminar entitled “Clean Water and Sanitation: Modern Challenges and Pathways to Sustainable Development,” dedicated to current issues of water resource conservation and environmental safety.

The event was organized by Kulzipa Dakiyeva, Professor at the Department of Ecology and Geography. The seminar was held as part of the Sustainable Development Goals Implementation Plan for the 2026–2027 academic year and provided an opportunity to discuss environmental issues related to the rational use of water resources.

Particular attention was paid to water supply issues in East Kazakhstan Region. The participants discussed the pollution of surface and groundwater, anthropogenic impacts on water bodies, access to high-quality drinking water, wastewater treatment, improvement of environmental monitoring, and the introduction of water-saving technologies.

Special emphasis was also placed on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 – “Clean Water and Sanitation.” The discussion covered such global priorities as improving public health and well-being, developing sustainable cities and communities, promoting responsible consumption and production, combating climate change, and protecting terrestrial ecosystems. All these areas are closely interconnected, as access to clean water, efficient use of water resources, and protection of natural ecosystems are essential conditions for the sustainable development of society.

Participation in the seminar enabled students to deepen their professional knowledge, broaden their understanding of contemporary environmental challenges, and gain a better awareness of the role future specialists play in conserving natural resources. Such events contribute to the development of environmental awareness, responsible attitudes toward the environment, and the practical application of acquired knowledge to address pressing regional issues.

Clean water is the foundation of human health, environmental safety, and Kazakhstan’s sustainable future. Its conservation requires personal responsibility as well as the joint efforts of science, education, and society.
