“BIOMIR: ONE DAY IN THE LABORATORY”: INTERACTIVE WORKSHOP FOR SCHOOL STUDENTS HELD AT AMANZHOLOV UNIVERSITY

As part of its career guidance activities, the Department of Biology of the Higher School of IT and Natural Sciences at Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University organized an interactive scientific workshop entitled “Biomir: One Day in the Laboratory” for students in Grades 9–11.

The event gave school students an opportunity to experience the world of science, learn about laboratory work, and discover through practical activities how engaging biology can be. The workshop was designed to broaden students’ understanding of natural science disciplines and help senior school students make informed decisions about their future professions.

During the session, participants immersed themselves in research activities and completed a range of educational practical tasks. They studied animal structure, explored the anatomical features of vertebrates and insects, learned the Gram staining technique for lactic acid and other bacteria, and observed plasmolysis in plant cells under a microscope.

Students from Secondary Schools No. 8 and No. 15 in Ust-Kamenogorsk, the Regional Specialized Boarding School-Lyceum for Gifted Children, and Nazarbayev Intellectual School (NIS) actively participated in the workshop.

The program concluded with an intellectual quiz on the Kahoot platform, allowing students to reinforce the knowledge they had gained and test their understanding. At the end of the event, the most active participants and quiz winners, as well as all those attending, received special certificates.

The interactive workshop provided not only an engaging introduction to laboratory work but also an important contribution to promoting biological science among young people. Such initiatives help school students discover their interests, see the practical application of scientific knowledge, and make more confident decisions about their future educational and professional pathways.
