CHINA’S GENERAL CONSULATE ARRIVED AT EKU

Today, representatives of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Almaty: Consul Huang Xiaoming, Vice-Consul Zhao Chao, Consul-Attache Wang Qi visited S. Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University.

During the meeting a number of topical issues were discussed: strengthening co-operation with Chinese universities, strengthening academic mobility and exchange of students and teachers of the two sides. Today on the basis of the University it is planned to introduce online Chinese language courses with volunteers, where all interested students will be able to study for free. In addition, guests were introduced to the university’s history, structure, educational areas and the work of scientific centres.

– Kazakhstan chaired the SCO this year. The SCO summit in Astana ended under the chairmanship of the President of Kazakhstan Kasym-Jomart Tokayev and was marked by important decisions and initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation and security in the region. In this regard, S. Amanzholov EKU makes an active contribution to this process. The development of bilateral relations between the SCO member states is one of the priorities both in diplomacy and in the sphere of education and science. S. Amanzholov EKU has agreements on bilateral cooperation with Qingdao University, Shandong Foreign Trade College, Yili Pedagogical University, Qing Hua University, Lanzhou Technical University, Xinjiang Research Institute of Forestry, Jiangsu Pedagogical University, Central University of Nations, – said the rector of EKU Mukhtar Tolegen.

It should be noted that in December last year, the signing of a memorandum with the Chinese company HAIER HAITECH on co-operation and development of projects in the field of artificial intelligence took place in EKU. HAIER HAITECH presented the implementation of new projects: Smart library, smart classrooms, safe campus within the R&D centre on the basis of the university.

In April this year the delegation of Amanzholov University at the invitation of Haier Haitech visited Haier Exhibition Hall, the museum of the company’s history. Within the framework of the visit bilateral meetings with the heads of the company were held, the directions of cooperation in the field of development of IT-solutions in the sphere of education and artificial intelligence, its use in the educational process, in the process of personnel training for the mining industry, in the field of prevention of risks of destruction from natural disasters at hydraulic structures and water supply facilities of settlements were defined.

– The project ‘Smart library’ (‘Smart’ library) and AI Smart classroom were discussed in great detail, with specific deadlines and terms of reference. As a result of negotiations, an agreement was signed to launch the project based on artificial intelligence from July 2024 on the basis of S. Amanzholov EKU. The visit to China continued with meetings with universities of China and discussion of plans for further cooperation and academic exchange of students and faculty between universities of the People’s Republic of China and Amanzholov EKU, – said Vice-Rector of EKU for Strategic Development and International Cooperation Irina Rovnyakova.

In addition, for the head of the university Mukhtar Tolegen in August were organised a series of events to get acquainted with the headquarters of the company ‘Huawei’, in Shenzhen and Dongguan. Within the framework of the visit, the Kazakh delegation got acquainted with Huawei’s experience in finding advanced solutions and visited Smart Campuses, Smart Universities, R&D Centre and Global Cyber Security Centre.

In general, co-operation with Chinese universities and large trading companies has been actively developing in recent years. Chinese citizens – our compatriots – also study here, and the university employs a Chinese language teacher under the programme of the Education Department of the Chinese Embassy.
