KANYSH SATPAYEV AND THE CULTURE OF THE 20TH CENTURY

Amanzholov University hosts lectures on ‘Satpayev and the culture of the twentieth century’, in honour of the 125th anniversary of the birth of the first Kazakh scientist and geologist Kanysh Satpayev. The lectures are conducted by Aspandiyar Omirbekov, chief specialist of the museum of the K.Satpayev Kazakh National Technical Research University. 

At the invitation of the rector of S. Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University Mukhtar Tolegen, a valuable series of lectures on the life and labour path of the great scientist, academician Kanysh Satpayev, who discovered significant mineral reserves, was organised for the students of the university. The main goal is to demonstrate Satpayev’s contribution to the study of natural resources of Kazakhstan in the XX century and emphasise his versatile erudition, as well as his concern for the future of the country.

Aspandiyar Omirbekov, Chief Specialist of the KNRTU Satpayev Museum, an expert with 20 years of experience in the field of Satpayev studies, shared his knowledge of the scientist’s contribution.

-The co-operation between K.Satpayev KNRTU and S.Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University continues to develop. New perspectives are opening up for students who are focused on science and education. Today geologists must master modern technologies and thanks to these innovations geological exploration will develop. East Kazakhstan University students showed great interest in the lectures and realised the scale of Kanysh Satpayev’s contribution to various fields of science, – Aspandiyar Omirbekov noted.

In addition to scientific achievements, Kanysh Satpayev also had a significant impact on music. Aspandiyar Omirbekov performed songs that the scientist loved on the dombra, using his personal instrument.

-We enjoyed the lectures very much. We learnt a lot of interesting things about the life of the scientist, who made a huge contribution to geology, agriculture, music and cinema, as well as supporting Kazakhstan’s youth in their education. We are very happy to have had such a unique opportunity,’ shared an East Kazakhstan University student.

Over the next two weeks, Aspandiyar Omirbekov will conduct a series of lectures for students based on his monographs and teaching materials on the life and work of Kanysh Satpayev. He is also the author of more than 20 scientific articles dedicated to the legacy of the great scientist.
