CONQUERING THE ICE: ANGELINA PENYAEVA ON CURLING

Curling is a team sport on ice, the aim of which is to hit a target by sliding a heavy disk with a handle across the ice. In this unusual sport, where discipline and precision are paramount, Amanzholov University student Angelina Penyaeva can already boast significant results. At the age of 17, she is a master of sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan and a repeated winner of international competitions.

According to Angelina, her deep love for sport was instilled in her by her brother Stanislav Penyaev, who is now her coach.

-My brother’s passion for curling showed me how exciting and interesting this activity can be. At the beginning of 2021, I started training for the first time and I haven’t regretted it. I found my way,” says the athlete.

Angelina’s first steps on the ice as a curler were not easy. Many techniques and throws seemed difficult for her. However, persistence in the form of regular training eventually paid off. And later in the young athlete awakened sports passion, which does not slumber to this day. Today, the East Kazakhstan University student can’t imagine her daily routine without her favorite sports rituals.

-My usual training day at the training camp starts with a nutritious early breakfast, which energizes me for the day. This is followed by an intense three-hour workout on the ice, where every move is honed to perfection. Here I work on technique, strategy and teamwork, making sure every second on the ice is as productive as possible.
In the evening, it’s time for general physical activity. During the school day I attend pairs and lectures, immersing myself in my studies, and in the evening I definitely devote time to training, – the girl shared.

It is noteworthy that Angelina Penyaeva is also engaged in other sports. For example, Nordic walking, running, arm wrestling and tug-of-war. However, it is curling that holds a special place in her heart.

-Curling is a mixture of intelligence, strategy and skill. It offers excitement, but without aggression or excessive physical exertion. Curling forces you to think several steps ahead. It’s like playing chess on ice,” the athlete shares.

Today Angelina is at the training camp in Novosibirsk, where she is preparing for the RK Curling Championship and the sixth Winter Spartakiade of the RK.

It should be noted that Angelina’s present and future victories are not only a personal triumph, but also the pride of the whole national sport.
