AMANZHOLOV UNIVERSITY AT THE CENTER OF THE “BAZHOV FILM MARATHON”

At the Pushkin Library, the “Bazhov Film Marathon” was held, an event organized by the Bazhov Charitable Foundation with the support of the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives (Russia, Yekaterinburg). This event became a vivid confirmation of how enriching and strengthening international cultural ties can be, particularly between Russia and Kazakhstan.

A special role in this cultural dialogue is played by the Department of Kazakh, Russian Philology and Journalism of Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University. For five years, the department has been actively cooperating with the Bazhov International Foundation. The path to close cooperation began in 2021, when students of Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University participated in an international round table, presenting six projects dedicated to the work of the great Russian writer P. P. Bazhov. This successful start opened new opportunities.

In 2022, students continued their participation in an international scientific conference in Yekaterinburg, delivering presentations on Bazhov at the plenary session. The “Bazhov Film Marathon” became a new milestone in this fruitful cooperation. The opening of the event was marked by vibrant performances by students of the “Russian Language and Literature” program, who presented a video project titled “Bazhov in Altai: A Tale in Verse,” offering an original interpretation of the writer’s work. Special attention was drawn to a fragment of the film adaptation of the tale “The Silver Hoof,” presented by students of the “Kazakh Language and Literature” program.

It is important to note that the translation of this work into the Kazakh language was initiated by the Bazhov Charitable Foundation. The culmination of the film marathon was a creative meeting with the director of the film “Deferred Time,” Kim A. This became a valuable opportunity for students to communicate directly with the filmmaker, ask questions, and gain deeper insight into the cinematic process and Bazhov’s creative legacy.

The “Bazhov Film Marathon” is not just a film screening; it is a living embodiment of international cooperation, where art becomes a language that unites peoples, and joint projects serve as a strong bridge connecting cultures and generations.
