OPEN LESSON ON PLANT REPRODUCTIVE BIOLOGY HELD AT AMANZHOLOV UNIVERSITY
The Department of Biology of Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University held an open lesson in the course “Reproductive Biology of Plants” for master’s students of the 6M05101 Biology educational program. The class was conducted by Zhamal Tursyngozhakyzy Igisinova, Candidate of Biological Sciences and Associate Professor at the Department of Biology.
The lesson focused on the increasing complexity of plant reproductive processes throughout evolution, from algae to higher spore-producing plants. The master’s students explored how reproduction evolved across different groups of plants, from simple forms in algae to complex life cycles involving alternation of generations in mosses and horsetails.
The practical component added particular value to the lesson. In advance, the master’s students collected natural specimens in the surroundings of Ust-Kamenogorsk, including lichens, mosses, and horsetails, which became the basis for their research work.
During the interactive session, participants presented the collected specimens, examined their structural characteristics in detail, and discussed the results of their observations together with Zhamal Igisinova.
The work continued with microscope-based research. The master’s students examined the reproductive organs of spore-producing plants, compared theoretical knowledge with actual microscope specimens, and discussed the evolutionary adaptations of different species. This approach made it possible to combine theory with the practical study of the natural environment of their home region, deepen understanding of biological processes, and develop skills in scientific discussion and public presentation of research findings.
The open lesson demonstrated an effective combination of theoretical training and research practice, contributing to the development of professional competencies among future specialists in biology.
