STEPPE CHESS: HOW THE STUDENT LEAGUE REVIVES TOGYZKUMALAK EN MASSE
For the first time in a long time, the student league resumed tournaments on the Kazakh national game togyzkumalak, four teams entered the struggle for supremacy: students of Abay, Pavlodar, East Kazakhstan regions. Note that the competition is held in the walls of Amanzholov University is not by chance, because it was a Kazakh scientist and linguist Sarsen Amanzholov in 1936 for the first time described in the literature rules and conditions of the game togyzkumalak.
Four universities: EKU S. Amanzholov, EKTU D Serikbayev and Students from Pavlodar Pedagogical University Margulan and Medical University Semey with excitement began the intellectual game in the classical classification.

Our team, not so long ago plays in togyzkumalak, about two years, but as it is known, the victory comes thanks to hard work, that our team does not occupy. In general, we have a Kazakhstani Telegram channel where we follow the games of other teams and learn about their tactics in advance,” said team leader Aruzhan Oralbekova, a medical university student.
Abai Kunanbayev and Ybyrai Altynsarin’s favorite game is now on the UNESCO Cultural Heritage List, and in the Eastern Division, togyzkumalak is rapidly developing as a professional sport.
– I am a CMC in this sport and the game really requires logical thinking, stamina and perseverance. We have a very friendly team and everyone is like a match. We hope that our region will take the lead,” said Zhanibek Arystanbek, a student of Pavlodar’s Margulan University.
– I believe that national games form respect for people’s traditions and their spiritual values. It is gratifying that tournaments of different scales have become more frequent in our region and in the whole country. Today, after the competition we will select the winners, who will be included in the national team of the Eastern Division and I hope we will win in the national competition, – said the judge of the competition Nazgul Baigeldinova.
Players who took first place in each group will be awarded with diplomas and medals in a solemn atmosphere.
