STRONG REGIONAL SCIENCE – STRONG REGION
Within the framework of the programme on the development of regions proposed by the President of Kazakhstan Kasym-Jomart Tokayev on the basis of S. Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University was held a visiting meeting of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. At a significant event were discussed topical issues of development of regional science and its role in socio-economic development.
The meeting was attended by representatives of large enterprises of non-ferrous metallurgy of Kazakhstan, as well as heads of universities, scientific institutions, representatives of regional business and industry, leading scientists of the region and representatives of the media. The agenda included discussion of the role of science in regional development, innovative technologies in the mining and metallurgical industry, efficient use of natural resources and commercialisation of the results of scientific and technical activities.
-To improve the efficiency of science in Kazakhstan, it is important to develop regional science. To date, 75% of science funding is directed to Almaty and Nur-Sultan, and only 25% to the regions. This approach does not favour the development of science. In this regard, the National Academy of Sciences is conducting a foresight session for the first time. We have had conversations with about 400 enterprises and thoroughly familiarised ourselves with the state of science in the regions,’ said Akylbek Kurishbayev, President of the Board of the National Academy of Sciences.
Also, according to the president of the board, the second important direction in the development of regions is to attract the attention of governors to the development of science. Currently, on the instructions of the President opened councils on science and technology at akimats.
Four memorandums of co-operation with industrial enterprises of the region were signed during the retreat, and the meeting resulted in the adoption of a resolution aimed at the development of regional science.
