AMANZHOLOV UNIVERSITY HOSTED A REPUBLICAN SCIENTIFIC AND EDUCATIONAL MEETING DEDICATED TO ABAI’S HERITAGE

In honor of the 180th anniversary of Abai Kunanbayev’s birth, S. Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University held a national seminar on “Abai’s Teachings: Just Society, Conscious Youth”. The large-scale event gathered scientists, intellectuals and students from different regions of the country.

– Popularization of Abay’s teachings is not a new endeavor. Our university has been systematically engaged in the study and promotion of his spiritual heritage for more than ten years. We have made the concept of Abay’s “full-fledged man” the basis of scientific, educational and upbringing work at the university,” noted East Kazakhstan University Rector Mukhtar Tolegen.

He also emphasized the importance of promoting Abayev’s heritage at the international level. On the initiative of the university administration, a cultural and educational center named after Abay was opened in the Polish city of Svec, on the basis of the Linguistic-Technical University. This testifies to the global significance of the teachings of the great thinker.

At the informative meeting the participants discussed in detail the significance of Abay’s numerous works for modern society, his role in the education of youth and relevance in the formation of a just society.

– Through the legacy of the Kazakh thinker the Kazakh people should realize the importance of a just and meaningful life and strive for it. No matter how society changes, if we rely on Abay’s ideas, we will be able to build a truly humane, just society. Abai’s teachings are an extremely important spiritual reference point for our time,” said Aizhan Kartayeva, Director of the Abay Studies Research Center.


The seminar gave a new impetus to deep understanding of Abayev’s teachings in the context of modernity and emphasized the need for its use in the education of the younger generation. The participants noted the importance of wide application of Abay’s ideas in the spheres of education, science and culture.
